Welcome to Accounting Mechanics

This is the opening of a new blog.

Quoting my dictionary, a meaning of mechanics is “The working parts of a machine; the technical or procedural details; the practicalities, (of something)”.

I’ve been engaged in the work of a management accountant for the last 15 years or so and have made my mark primarily on the workings of the machine side of things. I’ve seen good and bad (even excellent and insane, on occasion) and will be sharing some ideas in this blog over coming months.

We accountants are not renowned for our extroversion or interesting conversation, of course, so if accounting is not the hottest topic on the net then we needn’t be too worried. Nevertheless, we can achieve greater things and with more satisfaction through continuing to learn and share our experiences. Here we are in the later naughties : we need some decent blogs!

I hope to contribute to the profession not just my thoughts and suggestions but also, in the future, some software tools that will supplement that tool which is the greatest of all – Microsoft Excel!
