Reconciliation of data is a very common, basic task. Basic, but tedious and time-consuming to do manually, especially since the volume and complexity of data only ever increases.
Pressure on time in many businesses often means that reconcilations don't get done at all - and that's a real problem. Un-reconciled accounts are a liability. Let them go unchecked and they can lead to damaging adjustments or restatements. Reconciliation is not just a box-ticking "SOX compliance" exercise.
So there really ought to be a natural, easy way to reconcile that is better than the old manual method. Excel doesn't cut it. It might not be paper, but it's not an improvement on paper.
